The other day a friend of mine asked some other friends what gifts they get for their kids’ school teachers. I listened as they bounced around ideas like gift cards to book stores, movie gift certificates, and wine!

I chuckled and began to fantasize about the gifts I would like to receive as a homeschooling mom.

Then I made my list….

The Ultimate Gift List for Homeschool Moms

// 1

House cleaning services. I’m not talking about hiring a maid… I just mean a few days when everyone chips in and does all the cleaning.

// 2

A coupon book of complimentary marking and editing of my daughter’s writing projects. Oh. My. Goodness. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to have a “free pass” from marking my daughter’s essays!

// 3

An afternoon at the library… alone! I love taking my kids to the library but I would love to spend an afternoon there without the kids in tow. I would bring a portable mug of coffee, my headphones, and chill out.

// 4

Speaking of coffee… I would never turn down a coffee basket, a cute mug, or gift cards to a coffee shop. Coffee keeps this homeschooling mama ticking!

// 5

Something sentimental. My kids know… if they make something mushy for me, I’ll cry buckets. I adore those sweet gifts from the heart!

// 6

Books about homeschooling. I love reading about homeschooling and there are some great homeschooling books out there! Here are a few to check out:

Teaching From Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace

The Unhurried Homeschooler: A Simple, Merciful, Short Book on Homeschooling

Dumbing Us Down

My Kitchen, My Classroom: An Introduction to Homeschool (I know I wrote it, but if you read the reviews, you’ll see that it’s a great addition to any homeschooler’s library). **Note to my dearest husband in case he reads my wish list… please don’t buy any of these books… I already have copies).**

// 7

Stationary. I admit it… I’m a stationary junkie (and I know I’m not the only homeschooling mom who’s like this)! I have many journals and planners, I love a great pen (the Pilot G-2 is a personal favourite), and cute washi tape sets or sticky notes make my day! Stationary rocks… right?!

// 8

Tickets to a show. It doesn’t matter what it is; a play, a concert, a ballet, a movie… just take me somewhere fun!

// 9

Some sleep-in days! As a homeschooling mama, I like to rise before my kids. This gives me the time I need to read my Bible, eat, caffeinate (remember #4), and gather my materials for the day. During the week, I don’t get to sleep in. It would be lovely to experience some weekend mornings without the kids barging in and waking me up!

// 10

Cooperative students. Ha! Isn’t that the ideal?! I still get resistance sometimes when I ask my daughter to do a writing assignment. I would love to experience some days without battles over how to spell “animal”.

// 11

A getaway. Send me on a short overnight excursion somewhere! Let me rest and recharge in the comfort of a quiet hotel room. Ahhh, the bliss!

// 12

Appreciation. Nothing is more heart-warming than when the kids thank me for teaching them something or when the hubby expresses his admiration of our homeschool. What can I say… I love kind words.

Reflect:

Yes, it’s not a conventional list but these things would make for great gifts. What do you think?! Is there something I missed? Tell me all about it, and then share this post with your homeschool communities.
