The planning for November is done!

As I mentioned last month, we are Canadian, so we celebrate our Thanksgiving in October. Feel free to shuffle activities around if you’re not Canadian and add the Thanksgiving activities which we did in October, to your November calendar.

FOCUS POINTS

THEME FOR THE MONTH: Our Senses

INVESTIGATE: All five senses

NUMBERS: 5, 6

LETTERS: E, F, G, H

COLOURS: Blue

CELEBRATIONS: Remembrance Day (Nov. 11), National Child Day (Nov. 20)

NOVEMBER CALENDAR

WEEK 1 – SEEING

MONDAY

TUESDAY

  • Play some rounds of “I Spy”
  • Make blue playdough together
  • Provide “E” playdough placemat and make a “E” shape (download is in the Subscriber Library)

WEDNESDAY

  • Read: Through Georgia’s Eyes
  • Paint a picture of whatever we like (through our eyes)
  • Write the letter “E” and add it to our alphabet book

THURSDAY

FRIDAY

WEEK 2 – TASTING & SMELLING

MONDAY

  • Watch and do the “F” video on Starfall (need a computer with flash and a mouse for the free version)
  • Make Kool-Aid playdough together
  • Provide “F” playdough placemat and make a “F” shape (download is in the Subscriber Library)

TUESDAY

WEDNESDAY

  • Have a taste test (chips, lemon, chocolate chip, grapefruit, etc.)
  • Classify foods that we taste into categories of salty, sweet, or sour

THURSDAY

  • Have a smell test (coffee, perfume, mint, orange, etc.)
  • Try guessing what the smells are
  • Write the letter “F” and add it to our alphabet book

FRIDAY

November kindergarten planning (also suitable for preschool planning). Includes links to activities, crafts, and recommended books for your homeschooler!

WEEK 3 – TOUCHING

MONDAY

TUESDAY

  • Make blue playdough together
  • Provide “G” playdough placemat and make a “G” shape (download is in the Subscriber Library)

WEDNESDAY

  • Read: The Black Book of Colors (feel the braille on the page)
  • Experiment writing our names in Braille (use a pencil to punch holes into a piece of styrofoam)

THURSDAY

  • Set out different textured items to touch (pine cone, satin, cotton, sandpaper, etc.)
  • Sort items into: “smooth” or “rough” categories
  • Write the letter “G” and add it to our alphabet book

FRIDAY

WEEK 4 – HEARING

MONDAY

TUESDAY

WEDNESDAY

  • Place various instruments on a table to explore and play
  • Sing: Listen to the Water
  • Play freeze dance (dance while music is playing; when the adult stops it, children stop dancing)

THURSDAY

FRIDAY

  • Write the letter “H” and add it to our alphabet book
  • Go for a listening walk; write down what sounds we hear

So there you have it! A full month of learning and fun for a preschool or kindergarten child! Feel free to use any or all of these activities in your homeschool plans for November. Also, printable versions of these calendars are available in our subscriber library.
